How Homecare Works

Transitioning to homecare can be challenging for service users and their families. At Nuliving, we’re here to make the change as comfortable as possible for all involved.

This page aims to explain everything you need to know about our role as homecare providers and how we deliver our care services at home. If at any point you feel like you’d like more information or a friendly chat about our services, please don’t hesitate to contact our team. We’ll be more than happy to help.

What is homecare?

Homecare is a service which delivers practical and personal support to a service user in the comfort of their own home. It is conducted by our private carers in Carlisle and North Yorkshire, who are specially selected for their compassion, empathy, and expertise.

It is a common misconception that you have to be elderly to receive homecare, but this definitely isn’t the case. At Nuliving, we provide our homecare services to anyone suffering from injury, illness, disability, or long-term health conditions which impact their day-to-day abilities.

Why do people choose homecare?

Homecare services are often used as an alternative to residential care, where a service user would have to relocate to a care home to receive the care they require.

Homecare can offer both peace of mind and familiarity. Another benefit of homecare is its flexibility. The services are always tailored to the recipient, ranging from a few hours of help for the elderly at home to regular support for those with long-term, complex care needs.

Key benefits of homecare include:

  • Being able to receive care at home in familiar surroundings, near family and friends.
  • Receiving care that aligns with a bespoke personalised care plan.
  • Receiving 1-2-1 attention and support from a regular carer.
  • Having greater independence over decisions and routines compared to residential care.
  • Being able to adjust and tailor care services as and when needs evolve.

At its core, homecare is all about helping the service user stay safe, comfortable, and confident in leading their usual daily life as much as possible.

How does homecare work at Nuliving?

We’ve been operating as homecare providers in North Yorkshire and Cumbria for over 30 years. In this time, we’ve developed a straightforward onboarding process to provide a smooth, effective, and compassionate transition.

1. Initial enquiry

It all begins with an enquiry. Enquiries to us can be made via our online contact form, by calling or emailing our two Nuliving branches in North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

We’ll take the time to understand your situation and the kind of homecare support you’re looking for and answer any questions.

2. Care assessment

Following our initial conversation, we’ll arrange a no-obligation assessment. These will be conducted in the service user’s home, where we meet with them, learn about their routines, health requirements, and personal preferences.

This is an essential part of our process, as it helps us build a picture of what homecare services are required and how we can best support you or your loved one.

3. Tailored care plan creation

At Nuliving, we know that care needs are extremely varied from person to person. With this in mind, we avoid one-size-fits-all care. Our homecare services are completely tailored to the goals, preferences, and needs of each service user.

The following homecare services can be delivered individually or in combination with one another:

How is homecare delivered?

How we deliver our services is completely up to the service user and their family.

  • Daycare homecare: Practical support and assistance during the day.
  • Overnight homecare: Professional care and reassurance throughout the night.
  • Couples homecare: Joint care delivered on an individual basis to service users wishing to stay together in their own home.

Our delivery methods can be adjusted and changed at any point to ensure that we continue to provide the most effective care.

4. Carer matching

We will then assign the best carer for your or a loved one’s needs. Our carers are selected for their professionalism, as well as their warmth, personality, and ability to build meaningful connections.

Wherever possible, we will appoint the same carers to visit regularly, providing reassurance and familiarity at all times.

5. Starting care

We will then deliver high-quality support in line with the service user’s bespoke care plan, whether this be assistance with dressing, accompaniment to social events, or nutritional meal preparation.

6. Ongoing support and reviews

As homecare providers, we have a duty of care to our service user’s families. We cannot forget that it is a big transition for them, too.

Rest assured that our team regularly discusses and collaborates with service users’ families and their healthcare professionals to ensure that we provide the most beneficial level and type of care at all times.
